Recommendation: Your run of the mine booker winner, nothing too special here
This is David Storey's Booker award winning novel about the class struggle that confronts a young boy growing up in an English mining village. Set during World War II, the novel is full of bleak imagery and morbid characters. Colin Saville, buoyed by his father, studies hard and goes on to achieve a fair degree in success. Meanwhile, the platitude of his daily life, and his failure in romance, only serve to further contrast Colin's education with the plight of his drab and poor surroundings.
Now that I'm done all the Booker winners from 1969 to 2006, I can move on to bigger and better things - namely, the top 10 Booker winners and the ever dubious bottom 5!

You don't belong to any class, since you live with one class, respond like another, and feel attachments to none.
