How we are hungry - Dave Eggers

Dave Eggers is an astute observer of the human condition. He knows people and he knows what it is like to be a person.

This may seem like an obvious tenant, and certainly a characteristic that one would expect from a writer, but in Eggers it manifests a particular genius.

It actually bothers me to use such a word so liberally, genius. However, through didactic proof, comes learned conclusions.

In "How we are hungry", Eggers present a series of unrelated short stories. Ranging from the short and poignant to the longer, more focused stories, this collection is knit together by the fabric of the human spirit. If Eggers had set out a question to be answered when he wrote this piece, I'm willing to bet it was as follows: What is it to be human?

All of it is musical in a minimal and calming way, and she breathes in and out with an uncomplicated and mechnaical strength - plodding, powerful, robust.
